its the limit of port forwarding, each port can only go to one computer. But you normally only need port forwarding when your hosting something.

So say you had a ftp server on your machine, it uses port 21 by default. Then you put a ftp server on her machine, well since port 21 is taken you change the port the ftp server is using to something not being used. So say we use port 2121.

this might help explain it better

Beste Shane,

Thanks for your response. I don't understand it really.. so is there a solution that we both can play GTAIV online at the same time?

And.. I updated the firmware of our router, I get this message when I want to press "ADD":

you shouldn't need to port forward if you are trying to connect to someone else. Take World Of Warcraft. it is a online multi player game, you connect to them they don't connect to you that's why no port forwarding is needed.

The same is try with your GTA, if you are hosting the game then you need to port forward. So unless the game is setup somehow to where you need to port forward to even play when connecting to someone else then you may be out of luck.
The reason game developers don't do things like that is because it would only let one person connect. So they avoid that if they can.

Are you hosting the game? or connecting to someone else?

When I try to join a game where are like 10 of the 32 people are playing, I can't join. When I join I start my own game.. really weird
But when I forward these ports, I join, and then it's saying "Starting Game". So it is working with the Portforwarding.

This means that I connect to other people.

PS: Did you fix "Setting is Duplicate"?

Yours,

Hakan

Nothing I can do to fix the setting is duplicate. You cant forward the same port to 2 computers.

Here is a post I found about the same thing and possible ways to make it work. It is for GTA 2, but it still the same for GTAIV

Best Shane,

Thanks for the link.. but as you know my English is not that good.
Could you maybe explain it to me? And.. if our Sitecom Router can do it?

If it works I will be very happy.

Thanks in advance.

Yours,

Hakan

Best Shane,

I have to use port triggering.

*4. Port Triggering: This is like port forwarding but you do not have to set a static IP address and it will open these ports for all systems using the router, so beware! The ports you need to open for Xbox Live are UDP 88 and UDP/TCP 3074*

http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/grandtheftauto4/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-42935260&pid=933037

How do I have to fill it in, in the screen above?

Thanks in advance.

PS: I called Xbox Live and they said these ports need to be open:

80 TCP, 88 UDP, 53 TCP/UDP, 3074 TCP/UDP

rsnhakan,

We weren't aware you are using an XBOX 360.  I assume that is correct based off your last post.  Maybe you're using Live for Windows?  Can you verify this?  I have XBOX Live (and GTA IV), so hopefully I can help you some with this.  XBOX Live want an "open NAT" and the easiest way to get that is to look for a router that is "approved for use with Windows Vista".  If you see that logo then you're good to go with XBOX Live.  Microsoft did that on purpose...though they don't really let you know that.

Anyways, let me know a little more and I'll try to get you set up.

Hi Evan,

Thanks for your response. I am not using a XBOX-360.
I had to call Xbox Live because it's a live game. They told me which ports need to be forward.. (I told them how I have to do it on my router, but they said call your router manufacter)

But I am sure that I have to use Port Trrigireng, but I have no idea how to fill it in..

I only need to know how so then I can play..

If you could say how I have to fill it in, I would be very happy.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry I didn't respond, I got sidetracked and forgot!

The port triggering page will be simple. You fill it in just like a port forwarding rule, the only thing you need to add is the triggering ports.

The triggering ports are what ports the router should watch for enable to turn on the rule. So for the triggering ports make sure to put a port the game will use to send info out to the net.
I know this isnt your router, but it will give an idea how to port trigger.
