MSSTDFMT.DLL. error on Simple Shutdown Timer
« on: July 14, 2009, 03:59:42 PM »
Both version 1.0.0 and 1.1.0 of Simple Shutdown Timer have failed me.

Both give the same error message:
Class not registered.
You need the following file to be installed on your machine.
MSSTDFMT.DLL.

If it is possible to fix/remove this dependency please do,

Or if that isn't possible please try to include the ability to install it (the .dll file) automatically if it is present in the folder and not on the host then to remove it (the .dll file) upon exit. (I assume the user would add it to the folder unless you are allowed to do so.)

I have greatly enjoyed your timer and hope to use it portably again in the future.

Also is it possible to remove any unneeded dependencies on the registry from your applications?

I hope to see all of your applications listed on the website Portablefreeware.com a site which lists truly portable freeware.

THANKS FOR YOUR GREAT WORK and THANKS FOR SHARING IT.

oops!

oops! that file has nothing to do with the program, I had it accidentally selected as a reference, I have removed it and made a new exe, can you test it for me before I release it?

also the program needs nothing extra but the vb6 runtime files, which is part of windows xp and newer anyways.

vb6 runtime and compatibility
« Reply #2 on: July 15, 2009, 09:59:14 PM »
On vb6 runtime and compatibility with Vista.

Does this software get along with Vista?

I have tried the new version to no avail.

I am running a Vista Operating system but I am running the software in Compatibility mode for XP service pack 2. (I have tried running as Admin as well.)

This system has references to Visual Basic C++ 2005 in the add remove dialog.

I assume this is not VB6. or is it?

**************************************************Update
I have run across this link to a support statement saying VB6 ships in vista 32bit and the VB6 team are committed to "It Just Works" compatibility up to and including Windows 7

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Update2
The error received is the same as before.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vbrun/ms788708.aspx

Please pay specific attention to the table detailing what ships in which OS and where and how it should work.

vb6 is just Visual Basic, its

vb6 is just Visual Basic, its part of vista. The program works fine on my vista, don't need compatibility mode. Its just a windows api call it makes, nothing special. Of course it has to be ran as administrator (I always have the UAC turned off on my systems)

Are you running Vista 32bit

Are you running Vista 32bit or 64bit?  Also, have tried disabling UAC in Vista (in addition to NOT running the app in compatibility mode)?

Try downloading the VB6 runtime files in case yours are damaged.

Wanted to let you know I will

Wanted to let you know I will be looking into this more. I just got myself a netbook, wiped xp off of it and put windows 7 on it.

When I ran the shutdown timer, before I installed anything else it still complains about the dll file even though I removed it as a ref.

So I need to look into it more, just wanted to give you a heads up :-)

I am running Vista SP2 32bit all updates current.

I will send any positive results from a re-download of the vb6 runtime.

Oh and I never ran in compatibility mode before, nor did I have a problem with UAC before
as originally it was turned off on the advice of someone who sent me to BlackViper.com

well looks like the program just needs that dll, I guess one of the API calls I make requires it. So I updated the setup file to include the dll (The zip file does not have it).
v1.1.2 is now out, I added an extra command line option for another user.

Take care!
