reporting network traffic by the hour
« on: May 06, 2009, 06:46:49 AM »
I'm not a paying customer, but I just started using PC Fire Monitor to try to work out why my internet download rate is strangely high. Hourly reporting of network traffic would be useful.  It seems strange that your monitoring level is only daily/weekly/monthly. Even my ISP can give me an hourly breakdown of traffic seen at his end.

regards
thanks for a useful product

my cs fire monitor is a 5 year old program :-) And its free, so don't worry about being a paying customer.

This is the first time I have had anyone ask for an hourly log.
CS Fire monitor is on the back burner as I am working on a new bandwidth monitor. I will make sure to have an hourly log in there for ya.

It will be a while before it is out though. Im still working on the it :-)

Im going to start working on the logging for the bandwidth monitor im going to put into simple port forwarding pro. Right now by doing the way I have (daily) there is only 1 record per day. if I do hourly then there will be 24 records per day. that ends up taking 24x the space.

So a couple of questions.

1. Why is hourly traffic important? this will help me better understand the need for it.
2. Is hourly needed past the current day or say week? If I add hourly Im not sure it is needed to have hourly for every single day, so say a year down the road you look at the reports, your not worried about hourly. So to keep the stats database down perhaps hourly for the last day or 2?

What are your thoughts?

Thanks
