Minecraft Server problems
« on: January 01, 2015, 09:49:02 PM »
I can't get my server to work on minecraft, or any other game I play. Every port checker I use says the ports are open. I always check the internal ip on my port forwarding rules. Everything is set up correctly, and I can connect to my server using my internal ip. My friend can't connect using my external ip. I used to host servers with my friend all the time, and I moved to a different city with different internet and at first, nothing worked and I couldn't even get the ports to stay open. I reset my router (WGR614) and then they showed up as open after that, so I thought that would fix the problem, but it still doesn't work when my friend tries to connect to any server that I make. I tried disabling my firewall, but it worked before so I don't think it would be that. The server settings are the same as they were before when I had it working so I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be the problem either. I have been trying to get this to work for a while now and the only thing I can possibly think of would be that whoever runs my new internet provider hates me. Any help would be awesome!

#1 Forward the ports to your computer in the router.

#2 Post the following screen shots:

a) Showing how you forwarded your ports in the router.

b) The results of this port tester
http://www.pcwintech.com/simple-port-tester (if you have any computers that run Windows)

(Or if on a Mac computer, A screen shot of the results of the simple-port-tester for mac.)

Lets go from there :-)

Port forwarding isnt the problem since the ports are open. Normally it means that your firewall software is blocking minecraft or java, try disabling your firewall software and AV if it has a firewall in it and have you r friend connect and see if it works

I tried disabling everything and even shutting my firewall and AV off but it doesn't work. It worked when i lived at my previous house and I've changed nothing on my computer. We have a new router now with a different ISP so I'm thinking it might be either of those two

I know port forwarding is working, but lets double check this anyways.

In the netgear go to the basic settings page, there you will see the WAN IP it has, does it match the IP on this page?

Also have you checked to see if there is a firmware update for your netgear yet?
