i would really like to know...

what the difference between axcrypt and truecrypt is, and which one is better? i am running windows vista ultimate, with a core 2 duo 2.6, 4 gigs of ram and a nvidia 8600. thanks for all of your answers.

well I personally haven't heard of axcrypt and I use truecrypt. Its free and open source and is pretty dang good.

The best thing to do is test them both out and see which you like. Look at what each can and can not do. I like truecrypt as I can protect say a single file or dir, or the entire drive even before windows boots up. As with anything the more you protect and how high of a encryption use use will always be a performance hit.

well, i have been leaning towards truecrypt, but there are so many other programs. just in the time that i sent you the previous question, i have learned about six other programs. anyway, i just thought that i would give you the url of axcrypt:

although i will probably load up truecrypt, and hope that i don't make any detrimental mistakes. i like the idea of the virtual encrypted partition. thanks.

ok, i'll let you know about truecrypt. and i also found out why my avg disappeared off of my system, by the way. i was running returnil, and didn't know that it was active when i loaded avg. so that explained it. anyway, i'll play with truecrypt and let you know how it goes.
