Tablet
« on: August 21, 2014, 03:23:33 PM »
The love of my life has gotten onto a new  hobby horse; now she wants a tablet.  So on EBay she found 1 for less than $100. Ten inch with keyboard, wifi +3G and Android KitKat. But I think that the 3G just means the hardware is capable of running at 3G. What would I need to get to go with this thing to get a cellular connection so she could use it while on the road? I see things like Sim cards and Dongles and it is all just confusing.

All depends on the cell phone carrier you would use with it. 3g means it will support 3g cell internet. Sim cards and things like that are for carriers that use them. A sim card enables you to take out your sim card and put it in another phone and then you can use that phone.

She has her tablet with Android going now. A small glitch. It turns out that if you press on an icon for very long it sticks it on your home page. In fact you can do that several times and can wind up with a bunch of the same icons on your home page. Question -- how do you get rid of the extras?

BTW she refers to your site as The Knights Of The Round Table. So when she runs up a stump she says -- go ask the Knights.

Not a glitch, thats is how it works. You have apps installed and want to move them you hold down on the icon. You do the same on the home page, home the icon down and at the top you will see delete, drag the icon over it and it will delete it off the home screen :-)

Thanks, that worked except there are 3 settings icons that she can't get rid of. They (3 icons) are in a vertical row and they all move together but the delete never shows up. Ideas?

Well she fixed that one. She was always moving to the upper right since that was where the delete box was. She tried moving to the left and they separated so then she could go up and to the right to get rid of the extra ones. Good thing since I have yet to get a picture uploaded. Keeps telling me it can't resolve the address (even though I gave it two different ones) but I guess I don't care anymore.

However, she has another problem. She goes in and sets things like screen timeout and brightness. The next time she turns it on her settings are lost. Is there something she is missing like a 'lock settings' or something like that?

It should remember her settings, either something is changing them or they are not saving which means something is corrupted. If you havent yet make sure you have the latest firmware for the tablet.

How do I check her firmware level and where do I check to see what the latest level is?

Most tablets have a update feature in the settings. There you can check to see if there is an update or not and if there is one it should download and apply it.
