Unable to turn on wireless radio for belkin router
« on: June 08, 2014, 11:56:45 AM »
Hi,

I was having some internet issues and trying an old trick on my previous setup I unplugged and replugged the modem and router (wnr2000v4 from belkin). I have since been able to restore internet through the LAN line but I have been unable to get the WiFi back up.

I have pushed the WiFi button on the back and the led lights up on the front but the network in not visible to other devices. When I open the router UI, the wireless radio box is unchecked. I check the box, hit apply and the WiFi led turns off on the router and when the process is finished, the 'enable radio' box doesn't stay checked. I check the box and apply settings again with no change.

I have spent a few hours messing with this over the weekend and any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think you mean netgear :-)

I have never seen a netgear do this before, so it is either not able to save the settings or it is finding something wrong with the wireless and is turning it off.

The only info I can find on it is this
http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=54455

But I have a feeling it is something more than that. Have you checked for a firmware update?

That is correct. It is Netgear. I checked the firmware through the genie UI and there were no updates. I just tried enabling the wireless radio with no success using my old Win 7 laptop which was used by the cable tech to set it up a few months ago when they installed the internet. They didn't provide the router but there won't be any harm in asking the tech support for help. I tried calling the router company but got tired of waiting on the line and it is past the 3-mo window when they provide that support.

Thanks for your help and quick reply. Worst case scenario is I may have to get yet another new router. Not the end of the world by any means.

You could always do a factory reset on it, if it is just corrupt settings then a reset would clear them. But after you do that you would need to put your info back in since it will be back to the settings that it had when it came out of the box

I don't know if this detail matters, but when I push the wifi button on the back of the router a WPS led/button on the from lights up along with the wifi led. I don't know if somehow that function is inhibiting the radio from turning on. This is all after resetting the router so it isn't some latent settings. The WPS led/button also turns off when I attempt to apply the 'enable radio' checked box.

I will do another factory reset in case it didn't work so well the first time.

Make sure to do the 30/30/30 reset

http://www.pcwintech.com/how-do-hard-reset-aka-303030-reset-your-router

Then when it is back up, dont use the button (I always disable it in the settings) and see how it goes :-)

Dinner time!
