Massive Internet Lag
« on: May 12, 2014, 05:18:53 PM »
Well, for everything I do I always have over a 800 ping really. I've given up playing COD for the past few months because when I try to play I get connection interruptions and I just lag back the way I came. I can't play any other games that requires a lot at all ... ex: DayZ is impossible for me to play. Overall Minecraft does pretty well, but I really can't stand it because I always have like 5 second lag in everything I do chatting, opening chests, and other things.
It's funny cause on the mainroad right infront of my house they installed Fiber Optic but I can't get it lol. Also my internet provider which is Frontier or uh Hughes HT 1000 or whatever cannot give me DSL because we are like 65 ft away from the wiring which means my neighbor can get it but not I.
Anyways I was wondering if there was anything I could do to improve my internet and not have it be just so bad. I live in a pretty bad area for getting internet I guess its not to like out in the middle of no where, but its away from town about 7 or 8 minutes. Oh and my internet provides a bonus period from about 2-8 a.m. and during that time my internet is super fine not slow at all. Its just during the regular time when I run off my own data that it is slow.
I'm really unsure if this helps but here are my specs for my computer:
System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Version 2003 Service Pack 2
Computer Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Extreme
CPU Q6850 @3.00GHz
3.00 GHz, 8.00 GB of RAM
Thanks for the help :)

Frontier or uh Hughes HT 1000

You are on satellite  internet, and that is always horrible. Your ping times will always be horrible. The signal is going all the way to space and back. You have to get either cable, fiber or dsl if you want any kind of good ping times, you simply will never have a good ping times with satellite or cell phone internet like clearwire.

Shane, the OP can't host locally the game OR use POTs style Dial-up?

Thanks

It has to do with his ping times and who is ISP is. Nothing he can do can improve that
