history of Advanced monitor cleanings....
« on: April 16, 2014, 07:02:29 PM »
I noticed that the user can see the "last cleaned" date/time stamp for a auto run cleanmem and auto clean file cache.  Is it possible to keep a log file of this timestamp activity and create a button that allows the user to quickly view this log?  I want to keep track of how often the server or a specific application on the server triggers a cleaning.

I think the datetime stamp, activity performed, trigger levels, the memory levels after the cleaning is complete, and how long the cleaning took would be enough information.

CleanMem itself has a log option. Open the cleanmem settings "Start CleanMem Settings Wizard" in the menu of the mini monitor. And you will see the log option there. See if that gives you what you are looking for.

What does it log?  I activated the log on my laptop and server and I have not seen the file produced yet.  I am an administrator for both logins.  There should be some type of log at this point.

When cleanmem itself runs every 15 min from the task scheduler it should create the log if you did the settings correctly and put the log in a good path :-)

You also have to give it a proper process name to look for. So like I would put firefox.exe and in the log I get

CleanMem stats: 4/18/2014 9:05:03 AM
Process monitored - Memory usage - PID - Process path
--------------------------------------------------------------
firefox.exe, 254.14 MB ==> 4.24 MB, PID: 1780
   "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
--------------------------------------------------------------

I have taken it out of C:\ folder and put it in a new folder C:\CleanMem\cleanmem_log.txt  .  I do not see any log file.  Is CleanMem relying on any 3rd party dlls or programs to generate its own log file?  I do think I have some system logging disabled, but it shouldn't affect a program's ability to generate its own logs.

Are you saying that it needs at least 1 process name to look for?  It doesn't just log all CleanMem activity?  Anytime CleanMem does anything, whether from the task scheduler, monitor/advanced monitor, or me manually requesting a cleaning or activity, it should be logged.  Not sure why I still do not see a log  :cry:

Cleanmem gets copied to the syswow64 if 64bit or the system32 folder on 32bit when it is ran from the task scheduler. Along with the cleanmem.exe there should be CleanMem.ini with it as well. That has the settings for the log and such that you set.

Go find that file and post the contents for me so I can see if something isnt set correctly :-)

I found the syswow64 folder under c:\Windows

I then copied and zipped all files with CleanMem name in them.  And uploaded them here; one for the server and one for the laptop.

- There could be another reason why CM doesn't produce a log file. Users aren't allowed to place files in the C:\ folder. A second reason could be the fact that after a fresh Win 7 installation the user isn't allowed to place files in a "C:\Program files (x86)" (perhaps other folders as well). The solution for this is to run Tweaking's Windows Repair with - at least - the box "Reset File Permissions" ticked. (http://www.tweaking.com).
- You still need to specify one or more processes that need to be logged. That's done in the 2nd step of the CM wizard as well. As a result there should be one or more entries (separated by commas) in the *.ini file. E.g "logfilelist=explorer.exe". (See the process names in Task Manager).
- Perhaps you made a typo in the name of the process to be logged ?

That is the problem, you didnt tell what processes for cleanmem to log.

Code: [Select]
logfileenabled=True
logfilepath=C:\CleanMem\cleanmem_log.txt
logfilelist=

Cleanmem doesnt log every single process, if it did that log would get huge really really fast. So instead you have to tell it which processes to watch.

So in the cleanmem settings program, when you are at the log screen you click the + next to "Processes To Log:" and then put in the name of a process such as firefox.exe. You put the name of the exe as it would show up in the task manager, which is just the file name of the program itself :-)

So when that happens the cleanmem.ini would show like this

(If just 1 processes)
Code: [Select]
logfileenabled=True
logfilepath=C:\cleanmem_log.txt
logfilelist=firefox.exe

(Or if multiple processes)
Code: [Select]
logfileenabled=True
logfilepath=C:\cleanmem_log.txt
logfilelist=chrome.exe,firefox.exe,iexplorer.exe
