My Friend's Pc
« on: March 07, 2014, 08:14:48 PM »
I have noticed that my friend has either Spyware or Ad-ware but I cant tell which.
He has windows xp but I cant tell which service pack he has. His anti-virus software is Avast Free Anti-Virus.
He has tried multiple computer scans but Avast cant find anything.

What makes you think it is infected?

And have you ran combofix.exe and malewarebytes anti rootkit on it yet?

No matter what site he goes on popups bother him nonstop. Its been going on for about a month. He has popup blocker on and set on the default which is Medium.
And for the other question,no. We used Malware Bytes Anti-Malware. He scanned his computer and it came up with 356 Infected Files and removed them all,but the popups have still bothered him nonstop, once again on every single site. I found out he uses IE5 and refuses to use any other browser, like Google Chrome for example. ALSO:He scanned with Avast but never came up with any results. But that was before he scanned with Mbam.

Scan with the two tools I mentioned, it sounds like he has a root kit on the system. And IE5 is horribly open with security holes. Tell him firefox or chrome or he is going to just keep getting infected

People hate change, but fear will make them change to stay going lol Old IE = Bad.
