More Networking Tom Foolery
« on: December 24, 2013, 07:04:01 AM »
Since I couldn't fix Bettie's system she got another one (the old system works it's just that she doesn't trust it anymore). So now I am in the midst of getting the software she wants installed on the new system A few days ago when I started on her new system I checked the network and I saw 6 systems (her new one and 5 others), so that was good (what I expected). Yesterday I was going to go to her older system to pick up her music to put on new system -- her old system not on the network picture!! -- only saw 3 system (her new one and 2 others). I reset the router -- no change. I rebooted her new system -- got worse -- now the only system it shows is its self -- supposedly no other systems available.

So I came over to my laptop. It only shows its self and 1 other system. Went to my desktop -- it shows 6 system like it should.

What in the world is going on and what can I do to fix it?

Mac  -- Totally confused as always.

I never used the networking in windows like that, it only keeps a list of machines it finds on the network when it scans it, it doesnt keep them and it doesnt scan the network all the time, would be a big slow down on the system if it did.

Instead I just go to start and thenr un and put in \\computername

When you replace "computername" with the name of the computer. Then you go directly to it :-)

LOL. Well you are a guru kind of guy. Keep in mind that I am more the "point and click" kind of guy. Is there some way for me to force a system to rescan/refresh the network and show me what systems are available?

Hopefully you will be busy tonight and tomorrow with your kiddos.

Mac and Bettie wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas.
