Port Forwarding on a ASUS Dual Band DSL-N55U ADSL Model Router
« on: November 25, 2013, 07:59:52 AM »
Hi,

I have previously setup port forwarding on a Sagem and a Cisco Linksys connected to Sky ADSL in the UK. Both setups were slightly different but I got them to work in the end (I can provide the images of the setup but will need to hook them up again).

I have just purchased a new router (ASUS as mentioned in the title) and I can't get Forwarding to work.

I have read all of Shane's guidance and can't see anything that applies. I have tried rebooting the router and no change.

The DVR that it is connected to is unchanged from the previous router setups (images in the attached pdf). The port side of the DVR is the default setup and unchanged from previous router setups.

I have turned off the firewall in the router and there is no DMZ setup.

The one thing that seems to be missing from the previous router setups is that this new one only has one port destination (The DVR has a range of ports that can be accessed). Note, when setting up the DVR app on Apple IOS you use the upper port number for the access (HTTP Port 80, RTSP Port 4524). I have tried both the upper and lower port numbers in the port forwarding in the router with no success.

I tried the http tester (to cctv cameras) on one of Shane's links and that reported success. But then I turned off the port forwarding and it still said it was working! Maybe a reboot was necessary?

Note that I access this service via Dyndns as the IP address is not static (the one in the images should stay static for a short while.

Thanks for any help you can provide!
Regards
Ian

Lets take a quick look.

Post 2 screen shots for me.

1. A screen shot of the port forwarding page in the router.
2. A screen shot of the network setup in the DVR

Lets go from there

Hi Shane,
Thanks for the prompt reply.
Whilst I was getting the setups for you I decided to grab the setups for the Cisco and Sagem routers.... I clearly was not as experienced as I thought I was as I had got them both working but by 'mistake'!
My mistake was to think that port 80 incoming was to be sent to port 5420 on the DVR when actually port 80 needs to be sent to port 80 on the DVR and the port range 5420-5424 sent to the DVR
I believe I have it working now. Will need to test properly externally.
Will shout if I get further problems.
Thanks
Ian
