weird problem
« on: August 19, 2013, 11:58:24 PM »
i have port forwarded this port 25565 and i'm pretty sure i did it correctly .
then when i tried to test the port ( on yougetsignal.com ) i got this as a result ( Port 25565 is closed on 178.77.190.176. )
so i tried another program called ( port checker ) from the site ( portforward.com ) the result was all success !
then tried to test it again on yougetsignal.com ( with the program opened ) i got this as a result ( Port 25565 is open on 178.77.190.176. )
then i closed the program and test again i got this ( Port 25565 is closed on 178.77.190.176. ) (on yougetsignal.com)
i also tried Shane's program the result was success
note:i have tried dmz, also the whole process was with the firewall turned off ( also antiviruses )

is the port open ? please help

#1 To start with:

The client side software (from portforward.com and from here) is not just a port checker, it acts as a server.

By this I mean it starts listening on the port(s) that you told it to check.

Note by listening:

a) Since you are on Windows I point you to http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/28609/how-can-i-tell-what-is-listening-on-a-tcpip-port-in-windows/

b) If you were not on Windows (Mac, Unix/Linux), go look lookup listen on port and then your OS name using Google (or your other favorite search engine).

#2 If nothing is listening on the port that you check with a web based port checker, then the port does not show up as open.

If my port tester says it is open then you can count that it is

Most online port testers fail no matter what if nothing accepts their connection attempt. This port tester program will open the port on the system it is running on and listen for a connection from this site. So when the port tester program says the ports are open you can count that they are :-)
