AutoCAD and other memory & disk intensive applications?
« on: August 16, 2013, 07:00:39 AM »
Hi.

I was wondering if Cleanmem will help users that work with AutoCAD and other memory and disk intensive applications. I'm aware of the benefits of using cleanmem, but was wondering if for such scenarios cleanmem helps even further.

Perhaps if there is a Cleanmem user that also is an AutoCAD user could comment?

Thanks
Hector

1. Reducing memory usage reduces transfer of parts of the memory to the swapfile on the harddisk when the memory becomes full. And disk I/O is (relatively) slow.
When Windows is forced to increase the size of the swapfile, then you better get yourself a cup of coffee because your computer becomes a snail for a while.
2. But there're another benefits, as well. Starting with Win XP (????) the OS keeps track of all files/programs that are frequently used. Then when the user is busy with a program, the OS starts to "pre-load" (with a very low priority) those files/program parts/programs in the memory that's not in use. That makes overall performance of a memory intensive program better. So, reducing memory usage increases the amount of files that are "pre-loaded" and increases performance.
3. The first version of this program succesfully made a computer running AutoCAD (much) faster.
