Don't know what to do! Please help!
« on: January 06, 2009, 12:36:00 PM »
Hello

Please help out this forum-newbie...
I have problems with the static ip.  What do I have to do?  My internet provider is charging me extra for a static ip but I read that this program gives you a static ip for free!  Great, right?  It is if you get it to work...
Now the questions are... What do I do once installed the program and randommed the ip, and clicked on enable static ip?

Do I have to change anything in the router settings?
(i.e. inside my router 192.168.1.1)
Do I have to change anything in the LAN settings in windows?
(i.e. lan properties -> internet protocol tcp/ip properties -> ??????????????)

What about the DNS servers?
am I OBLIGED to change that in the router in order to get the static ip working?
am I OBLIGED to change it in windows to get the static ip working?

What about the DHCP?
Should that be enabled?

Any help will be greatly appreciated, but please, try to speak as simple as you can and give me step by step directions.

Thanks a million,

Ok simple static IP changes your local IP when you are behind a router. It doesn't change your internet IP.

If your provider is charging you try stopping the static ip with them and use the free service from http://www.dyndns.com/

so when your ip changes you will still connect just fine. Make sure to read all about it. It is what I and a lot of others use.

need anything else let me know.
