Port Forwarding w/ VPN
« on: July 15, 2013, 05:11:43 PM »
I have a question pertaining to opening up a port that I have specified within uTorrent.

I just subscribed to a VPN service and I can't for the life of me open the port I've specified in uTorrent.  It always worked flawlessly until I subscribed to a VPN and I need assistance on how to configure it so that my port remains open while I'm connected to the VPN (which I plan to be at nearly all times).

I subscribed to Private Internet Access if that helps and I am connecting via the UDP protocol.  Additionally, I have the new ASUS RT-AC66U router which I am usually connected to via the ASUS AC53 USB adapter (rather than the WLAN card in my laptop).

Can anyone offer any assistance?

VPN is a virtual private network. So like here at home my computer in the house and my computer in the office can see each other since they are on the same network. A VPN lets me do the same thing over the net. Not sure why you would need a VPN with utorrent though.

But first thing to do is to make sure the port forwarding is working.

So post a screen shot of the port forwarding page in the router and a screen shot of results of my port tester program.

Lets go from there :-)

Attached are what I believe you were looking for.

Please note that I am connected to the VPN via the UDP protocol but it still failed even when I connected to TCP.

Dont use the online port tester, it will fail no matter what if nothing accepts the connection, use my port tester program instead

Which IP am I supposed to listen on (refer to screenshot in the dropdown menu at the top).  Also, for some reason, Simple Port Forwarding is no longer able to update my router when I make any configurations.  I am not sure why.

Also, is UDP okay to use?

Not sure why you have 2 IPs, what is the IP of the router?
