Can't port forward, end of my rope here
« on: February 23, 2013, 06:52:13 PM »
Hey, everyone. Google lead me here, and after browsing your site a bit, everyone seems to have helped everyone in the best kind of ways. I'm hoping someone can help fix my problem, too.

I'm trying to port forward a port or two, and it simply will.not.work.
Here's what I have done so far:
-Set up static IP outside DHCP range - 192.168.1.105
-Went into router configuration, port forwarding range page, forwarded the ports I needed (Have done DMZ as well)
-Disabled windows firewall and uninstalled any other antivirus that may have been blocking it.

I don't know what else to do. Can anyone help?
Some additional (and probably critical >.>) information is as follows:
I have port forwarded before, and have in fact had it working before on this computer. However, it just sort of..stopped. I don't know what else to say to describe it.
I have done this on two different routers (Linksys WRT54GS and Linksys WRT120n), neither will show up as open.

I'll post a screenshot of information you'll probably ask for with this post. Thank you very much for any advice you may have.

Here, you'll want this too.
Although they show up as successes, I still can't run two different things I've been using as testers (Minecraft and Xlink Kai), or ping myself.

One thing to remember is that most home routers dont support reverse nat
http://www.pcwintech.com/test-for-reverse-nat

SO that means when your on the your network you have to use your local IP. When outside your network, like I am, is when you use your internet IP.

Also if my port tester says your port is open you can count that it is. Most online port testers are pointless. If nothing accepts their connection they fail no matter what. My port tester opens then port on the computer and listens for a connection from my site. So when it says it is open you can count that it is

I tested ports outside the range i forwarded and your tester came up with failures, so you're probably right in saying they're forwarded. That being said..what should I do about the fact that nobody seems to be able to connect to things I run from my computer, then?

Make sure your firewall software isnt blocking them and make sure they are connecting to your internet Ip and not your local

Windows firewall has been disabled this whole time, and I don't think I have anything else acting as one. I've given others my external, still no dice.

Did you check to see if your Antivirus has a firewall in it? And if it doesnt try turning the firewall back on in Windows and make sure the game is allowed through.

What antivirus do you have installed?

I re-enabled firewall, checked the rules (they were allowed through), and re-disabled it.
I have no antivirus currently installed.

Minecraft is just a program I'm using to see if anything works at all. After checking the config file (looks fine), nothin changed.

The program I'm trying to run is xlink kai, which is a whole extra set of dumb rules, but the forwarding issue has to be solved first.

Port forwarding is done. My tester shows the ports are open

The possible answers, that I thought of, include:

#1 You are still running the port checker with a built in server in it ?

#2 You did not tell them your non bogan Public IP Address (Which is found at http://www.pcwintech.com/myip ) ?
Private messages (PM) are not for support questions or for hints to not yet answered topics. The PMs are basically for confident conversation between the users, off the forum.

Hard to tell.

We know port forwarding works and you have the firewall off and nothing blocking it.

Only thing I can think of is perhaps it needs more ports open?
