Pinning Folders
« on: February 05, 2013, 09:11:20 PM »
Hi everyone,

Ok, so I'm not a Win 7 lover as my desktop uses XP Proff still, but of course when you buy a laptop, you have no choice unless you are going to reformat again. And yes I know they will be getting rid of updates soon on XP.

Anyway, my biggest issues with Win 7 besides the fact that it seems to hog my computer, is the task bar area, as I like the way it is on XP & there's no way to make it look exactly like that on 7. Trust me I've talked to several people including MS's call center in Costa Rica (no comment as they tend to not know what they are talking about.).

So one thing that call center did teach me though that I'm grateful for, is the ability to pin folders or programs so you can open your favorites fast.

Well I have a ton of folders I need pinned, but first I found it hard to pin most of them so I figured it had a max. Does anyone know what that max is?

Then whenever I'd delete a folder & try to replace it with another, it wouldn't :(

No matter how many times I drag it to that area, it won't stick.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Michelle

What is it that you miss from the xp taskbar? The quick launch icons?

Hi,

Yes, but I eventually figured out that the right side quick launch area is okay, I can handle that. What I can't handle, is the left side.  It moves the icons around all over the place. I learned you can drag them tothe left (where they should be), but then once I open software, it constantly places one of the icons in the middle of 2 open pieces of software. It's just stupid IMO & there's no way to fix it. I guess I'll have to live with it when I do move over to 7 on my desktop, but in the meantime, the things they changed, IMO, makes things harder. Some things are easier like being able to search for programs, but I can't find notepad (I think) or my recycle bin when I search, so it's not without it's bugs.

You don't know the answer to the pinned folders? :)

Thanks

Michelle

I dont know if pinned folders has a limit. I use them myself.

But I asked about the quick launch because in windows xp I always used the quick launch, but in 7 they removed it. But I found a way to get it back, so that's why I asked :-)

You did?

The one on the left side you mean where you click on the arrow & it shoots up vertically?

How many folders do you have pinned in total?

I guess I'll have to find someone else who knows more about pinning :)

I can have as many as I like as it is just a link to a folder. Here give it a try :-)

Well it's not working for me :(

Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong. I have currently 17 folders pinned, then there's a horizontal line & then 3 items below that that have nothing to do with me.

Explorer
Unpin
Close all programs

As for the quick launch, my XP QL has a breadcrumb. The one that shows up on Win 7 has the text "Quick Launch" which takes up way too much space. That's not what I wanted.

Someone had already done what the Geek forum recommended, but then someone placed it on the right side of my task bar instead of the left.

So I guess it's there. It's just not on the left side.

On the left side is where there are issues & I'm surprised no one else has complained about this.

The icons on the left move all over the place. They don't stay in one area "flush left" to the left of my open programs.

Hope you got a visual :) If you need a SS, let me know.

Thanks

Michelle

You didnt read the guide, it shows you in the steps how to remove the title text and how to move it from the left to the right
