New disk vrs old and relocation of OS
« on: January 25, 2013, 11:42:37 AM »
Hi Shane
I bought a new sea gate HD about a month ago, now the question is if it is advisable to move the system to the new Hd for better performance.[Remark:the 4k write speeds in the new HD are lower than in the old one, and i do not know what it means]
Here are the read write HD test comparisons.Thanks.

Thank you for your reply Shane the 4k write speeds in the new HD[SATA III] are lower than in the old one [SATA II]  , does this mean anything against the new HD?

No it doesn't, 4k gets written so fast you wouldn't notice it. It is the larger writes where it counts. Then the new drive and read and write larger files MUCH faster tot he old one.

And since 90% of your files on your system are much bigger than 4KB then you can see why it would make a big improvement

HI Shane
After that the first and successful step have been done and Sys moved to the new HD, the next simpler question comes: If I do not really need all that remaining older HD space, will I get any benefit from getting it out of the computer?
Thanks/

Not really. The system is running off the new drive. You only use the old drive when your getting files from it
