External Hard disk is not detecting
« on: January 18, 2013, 09:12:38 PM »
HI Everyone,
My problem is I can't see my external hard disk getting detected. Whenever I plug in, there comes the detection sound, but it says software installation failure. So I couldn't do any further operation with my external hard disk because It is not showing up.
Usually my external hard disk will automatically gets ejected often whilst the cable remain connected and when it detects back, it will prompt for format. I'll give no, and it used to work normal after that. But this time it gets ejected, connects back and prompts for format, I gave no, but nothing happens. The hard disk doesn't showed up again. Its not getting showed in any other computer as well.
Help me out!

Regards
Ganesh

If it isnt loading up on another system then it sounds like it may have went bad and it isnt anything wrong with your system.

I had a customer last week who had a 1.5 TB external drive. When he plugged it in the drive was in raw format and the system would barley respond when it tried to read it. I took the drive out of the case and hooked it into the system and still the same thing. The drive was bad. The external case was still good though and I put a new drive it in so he still had a backup drive.

If the drive has gone bad then nothing will be able to detect it. Not sure who told you ubuntu would somehow be able to. It is a hardware problem, not software
