Explorer Shell Iconcache Question
« on: November 25, 2012, 07:29:37 AM »
Morning
Ok, if I go to regedit and change the size of the max cached icons- no matter
what I change it to(microsoft says 512) the iconcache still gets large,as in
6megs or so-why does it do that?

I have tried setting the max cached icons to 512,1024,4096 and 8192.
All settings result in the iconcache size of about 6megs or so,Why?

That microsoft page is a typo,I looked at some .reg files I have that add
a radio button to folder options and they are all Max Cached Icons (spaces)
I tried changing it to no spaces and the iconcache wont get rebuilt-then
changed back and it got rebuilt.So I dont know......
here is part of the reg file I used to use:

"ValueName"="Max Cached Icons"
"DefaultValue"="2048"
"HKeyRoot"=dword:80000002

Oh well at least I have the correct registry wording so no worries.
I use tweakui to rebuild the icons and that works,gets the cache
to about 1.5 megs and actually makes my pc faster-I know my machine
is old but it flys like an eagle so I wont worry about that,my pc is faster
than my sisters dual core,3gig machine!!!!
Thanks Shane.
