ASUS RT-N66U Port Forwarding NOT working
« on: November 18, 2012, 02:17:01 PM »
I cannot get port forwarding to work on my new ASUS RT-N66U. I have tried to open three ports to view my security DVR remotely with no luck. I have spend way too much time. I had no problem doing this on my old LinkSys.
I also upgraded my modem to Motorola SB6121. I don't know if that can affect anything.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

The Motorola SB6121 should be just a modem only and not a router, so that shouldn't be the problem.

So lets take a look at a few things.

Post 2 screen shots for me.

1. A screen shot of the port forwarding page in the router
2. A screen shot of the network setup in the DVR.

My port tester is only for testing to your computer, so we wont use that here.

Also make sure there are no port triggering rules enabled and DMZ is off in the router as well.

Lets go from there

I turned off the router's firewall and now port forwarding is working. I thought I tried that before, but anyway, it is working.

Does turning off the router's firewall put me at risk?

I attached a screenshot of the firewall page.

Thanks!

No, the router is a hardware based firewall. The firewall features are just more things to use.

But with port forwarding you have to have it off to allow the connections through :-)

Since your all set I will lock this thread

And as always...
