Port Forwarding correctly...help!
« on: November 09, 2012, 06:36:04 PM »
to whoever reads this...

I've read about 10 different guides on how to port forward. they all say the same thing, but each time, every port forward checker program says the port isn't done right...i'm pretty sure i've used the right IP address (the IPV4 from my router, right?) I think the problem is with my firewall, but I've allowed the port (i think), would someone be willing to give me a rundown there? as for my router, i have a netgear WGR614v10. if any other details for correct forwarding could be provided, they would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

#1 In the router go to Router Status

#2 With another web browser window or tab go to https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

#3 In the paragraph that says

Quote
There is no standard governing the format of these machine names, so this is not something we can automatically determine for you

is in the non bogan-public IP that you are coming from.

#4 In the router at the screen where I told you to go to, the IPv4 Address should be the same IP Address.

#5 If not:

a) Physically find your Netgear WGR614v10

b) On the back of it will be a WAN port.

c) Please note: It might not called that, it could be: Internet OR To Modem Port.

d) I know that a wire is connected to that WAN port.

e) What is the brand and model of the device that is on the other end of that wire?

Internet -> Some other box -> Netgear WGR614v10 -> Your computer(s) by wire or wireless.

#6 When you are forwarding the ports, did you try to forward to the IP Address on your computer?

By that, I mean for example if you are on Windows XP..

a) You went to Start -> Run.

b) You typed in cmd and pressed enter.

c) In the new window, called the command prompt, you typed in ipconfig /all and pressed enter.

d) You looked at all of the output, because your computer might have more than one NIC.

e) In the router you did NOT try to forward to: The Default Gateway, one of the DNS Server Addresses, or to the Subnet Mask of what you found in the output from ipconfig /all (You tried to forward to the IP Address line of what is listed in ipconfig /all) ?

Lets take a look.

Post 2 screen shots for me.

1. A screen shot of the port forwarding page in your router
2. A screen shot of the test results of my port tester.

Also in the router find the WAN or Internet IP. Does that IP match the one on this page?

Go to the basic settings page. There you will see the WAN or Internet IP. Does it match the IP on that page I gave you?

Internet IP is right there, and it shows your behind 2 routers bud

Follow this
http://www.pcwintech.com/how-setup-two-or-more-routers-together-port-forwarding-port-triggering

So log into 192.68.2.1

In there find the DMZ page, enable it and put in 192.168.2.2 and save.

Once done do my port tester program again :cheesy:

Ok on that page at the top , rule 1 which says all ports. That is DMZ. So for the IP put in 192.168.2.2 and hit save.

Once done try my port tester program
