Please help! Port Forwarding BitComet
« on: October 14, 2012, 05:15:56 PM »
Hi. Coud someone please give me some step by step instruction with my problem. I' am really bad at this stuff. Thank you!

I have a Cascaded Router. I have used successfully opened a port using Simple Port Forward to open a port(25882) for BitComet in my living room which is using a DB108-WL router, but I can't figure out how to use BitComet with my 2nd router DLINK DIR655v1  in my bedroom which is hooked up with my initial main router in the living room.

I have tried going into my DLINK router settings and opening the port in there and it doesn't work.

I have tried DMZ in my initial main router in the living room, even though I don't really know exactly what DMZ does. I tried inputing both router IP's into DMZ.

Please try to give me step by step instruction because I'm quite bad at this stuff. Thank you!

If you have systems connected on both of the routers then here is the trick.

Log into the DLINK DIR655v1. Find its WAN/Internet IP. Write it down.

Now for any port forwarding to the D-link you will log into the DB108-WL, setup the port forwarding rules to point to the wan IP you wrote down.

Then back in the d-link you setup port forwarding like normal to the computer.

So all we are doing is sending the connect from the DB108-WL to the D-lINk then to the computer.

DMZ is a open all ports rule, but since you have systems using port forwarding in the DB108-WL we cant use dmz.

I did lol

Shane

I get the idea what you are trying to tell me but I'm really bad at this stuff. What I meant was how to I input the stuff?

So the first line where I got the successful port forward for my living room router, DB108-WL.

BitComet    25882    25882    TCP/UDP    25882    25882    192.168.1.6

This is the second line I did to try to point DB108-WL to point to DLINK. I don't know if this is correct way of doing it, but I tried it and it didn't work

BitComet    25882    25882    TCP/UDP    25882    25882    192.168.0.145

Sorry, I'm probably doing this all wrong.

This is the page for what it looks like for the port forward i did for my router in the living room.

If I connect to the router in my living room bitcomet will work, but i just can't get my dlink one to work.

192.168.1.6 = db108-wl (living room router. 1st router, main connection)

192.168.0.145 = dlink dir655 (router in my room. 2nd router, which is connected to my 1st)

OK so on the computer that is hooked to the D-link, you have to have it use a different port than the other computer. Have it use port, say, 25883 (You set this in the bitcomet settings)

So in the DB108-WL. you will have 2 rules like this

BitComet    25882    25882    TCP/UDP    25882    25882    192.168.1.6
and
BitComet    25883    25883    TCP/UDP    25882    25882    192.168.1.2  (Notice it goes to the WAN IP in the D-Link)

Once that is done you go to the port forwarding page in the D-Link and change the rule there to this

BitComet    25883    25883    TCP/UDP    25882    25882    192.168.0.145

Once done close bitcomet and post the results of my port tester

Shane

It still ain't working me.

Oh sorry, I made a typo before. It's 192.168.0.144

The DLINK page port forward looks a little different from my DB108-WL page. I thought I just open the ports in "Port Forward" tab of DLINK would make it work, but it didn't. So I tried the "Virtual Server" tab and it didn't work also. I saw that DB108-WL port forwarding method is in the "Virtual Servers" so that's why I went ahead and gave it a try in the DLINK page.

Here's what I did for both the routers. Maybe you can spot what I did wrong.

Your not changing the rules properly

And it is my fault because I didnt type it right for you lol, sorry about that.

So in the DB108-WL. you will have 2 rules like this

BitComet    25882    25882    TCP/UDP    25882    25882    192.168.1.6

Also in the D-Link remove the virtual server rule and only use the port forwarding page. And just have 25883 on there and thats all

Cool it works now!! THANK YOU SHANE!! I love you MAN! You are the greatest. It works perfectly, and now I learned how to port forward a cascaded router.
