Usb mass storage drive question
« on: October 01, 2012, 10:16:25 PM »
Hi
I have a seagate usb storage drive(160gig) formatted Fat32 and am Buying a larger one(500gigs) formatted NTFS-I can plug both drives into my computer at once as i have lots of Usb ports-question I can copythe files from the Fat32 to the New NTFS, Yes?

Now I can copy from XP to the fat32 one back and forth no problem-so I will be OK?
Rod
Thanks

You can yes. But NTFS carries the file permissions and can handle files larger than 2 GB. Fat32 can only handle files up to 2GB and has no file permissions like NTFS. I always keep all my drives NTFS so I can handle the larger files

So I should leave it NTFS?I read on the internet that XP dislikes removable drives formatted NTFS
have you used one on XP?
One more question will the new drive work on XP SP2? (I know I should update)
also my current seagate has been on a total of 106 hours-will that last me a while still??

Thanks a lot Shane

106 hours isnt very much. But there is no way to tell how long the drive will last. It should be fine though.
