Firewall for laptop
« on: June 24, 2012, 06:26:01 AM »
Hey Shane,

When I'm away from the house, should I be using a software based firewall since I'm not behind my router?

Depends how you connect to the internet.

Normally you are still getting behind another router

Your behind their router :-)

The only time you are not behind a router is when you are connected directly to a modem. A router takes that one connection from the modem and routers it to multiple machines, thus the name router

So basically any place that offers internet is going to be behind a router.
