Broadband
« on: June 05, 2012, 05:28:38 PM »
Hi Shane,

This might get a little long winded, so I apologize up front. My mother in-law lives in the sticks. She was using dial up for internet access. She has since moved to what she is calling broadband through verizon (usb stick in desk top for signal I guess). It worked fine right up until she did away with the phone line. The technicians are saying she now needs a router to get service again. I'm not following that logic. How does broad band work via a usb stick (antennae), and why would turning off phone service affect it?

If she is getting their cell phone internet then it shouldn't matter at all about the phone line.

Only way it could would be if she actually had DSL (through the phone line) and it was just a wireless adapter. Not sure why they would have had it set up like that.
