s.m.a.r.t information
« on: May 11, 2012, 10:49:10 PM »
Hey Shane,

    It's been a while bud (been out of town for about 2 months). Before I left I was running acronis hard drive monitor, it hung up so I rebooted my machine. Then acronis stopped recognizing s.m.a.r.t information. I check the bios and it was good there. I checked disk management and that said C: drive was healthy. I uninstalled acronis and reloaded one I had used before (crystal disk info) with no problems, now it would also not show s.m.a.r.t info (it would before I tried acronis). I have since loaded a new monitor with the same thing happening. Any idea? My other drives show information correctly. Like I said, it is enabled in the bios and the quick status check there says its good.

Smart information is read directly off the drive itself. The bios is reporting that smart is enabled not that it is actually trying to use smart.

And Windows reporting a drive is healthy isnt smart status. That is normally for the file system or any bad sectors windows runs into.

So if the drive has had it smart status fail I would be looking at keeping a backup of your data to be safe. And if the drive is under warranty to get it replaced.

What is the mfg of the drive? I can see if I can find any info on the smart status no longer working. :wink:

If it was a problem with the drive sea tools would have failed as well :wink:

The sea tools works directly with the drive. While the others go through windows drivers to read the drive.

Try to update the driver of your storage controller. Sometimes a newer version of the driver may enable S.M.A.R.T. support;

I say that should be your next step.
