Updates for laptop
« on: March 22, 2012, 11:51:04 PM »
Hey Shane,

Got vista loaded on old laptop and all the updates except last two before service pack 1. I get error code 080070017 for all three (yes I also tried service pack 1, no joy). I ran check disk and everything was fine. I tried running sfc /scannow, it got to 32% complete and stopped saying " Windows Resource Protection  could not perform the requested operation". I tried fixing from boot disk but no joy. How do I fix error code and sfc /scannow?

If this is a fresh install how on earth do you keep having trouble?

Normally problems with a fresh install are due to bad hardware, as you found out on your other system that had bad sectors.

Is this the same system or a different one?

It's the same one. I'm just using to tinker on. Unit it crashes that is. It runs fine and all other updates take. I ran check disk again and no problems. I'm defragging it right now.

I'd recommend running all the repairs. You said this a fresh install of windows. Are you doing this from a backup image or are you using a Windows install disc? I ask because if you are using anything other than a legit Windows disc and doing a complete clean install then the source data could be bad as well.

Okay, I'll run them all. Evan, I'm using an install disk. All other updates worked
