Windows 7 Ultimate - Cannot launch programs
« on: February 18, 2012, 04:10:54 PM »
Hello,

My computer got infected by some virus.  Ran a bootable cd scan with avira to clean out the virus and then ran my regular kaspersky scan on the machine. I was lucky also to run across the tweaking programs and that got me up and running again.
However, last night I ran a complete diag with spotmau Power Suite Golden Edition 2012 - 7.0.1.  I shut down my computer and then when I turn it back on in the morning I could not launch any of the programs.  I got alerts like - service could not be started, when I try to launch explorer I get a message "No such interface supported", when I try to launch the tweaking program - "Run-time Error 9 - subscript out of range", when I launch word - the windows installer service could not be accessed, and run-time error program c:\windows\system\nvvsvc.exe, etc.

What can I do to be able to launch tweaking program to clear this problems?  I have tried launching the individual programs, but when I click on the executable nothing happens.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Doesnt seem to be with my tweaking.com programs, if it was I would have you post in that forum :-)

Sounds like the virus has done a number on your system.

Are you able to run any program?

Have you also ran tdsskiller.exe and combofix.exe? (download them off the net)

hI Shame,

By no means am I implying that it was cause by your programs.  Your programs are great.  I wanted to know if there is a way to run your programs to fix my issue.   Either through the dos prompt or some other way.  I tried in safe mode and usb drive, but they would not launch.  There are some programs that will launch, but non that have to do with windows, like word, windows explorer etc.

Please let me know if you can think of anything else.

thanks again for your prompt reply.

First thing to do is a system file check

Open a d cmd.exe window and put in sfc /scannow

Let me know the results

Hi Shane,

I tried running sfc /scannow, but I got a message that the "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service".

Thanks,

Wow, I have a feeling a lot of reg keys for the services have been messed up.

The best thing to do, short of a fresh install, is a repair install
