Accessing DVR from Web through Linksys BESFX41
« on: January 05, 2012, 06:44:50 PM »
Hello: After reading many posts for various routers and trying with mine as many times I'm hoping you can offer me some pointers to lead to successful port forwarding.  It starts with a DVR (cctv) system feeding through WAP54G to nearby remote location with BEFSX41.  DVR uses http port 80 and media port 9000.  DVR's static address 192.168.100.13.  No problem hitting the DVR box over my LAN.  DSL connection through Verizon.  Verizon modem in "bridge" mode ahead of BEFSX41.  So far, when trying a port forwarding test, I only get responses that the ports (80 and 9000) are closed.  Port forwarding test uses WAN (ISP) address of course.  I've attached a screenshot of the port forwarding page in the BEFSX41.  What else can I provide as information to help with diagnosis?  Thank you so very much if you are able to assist. Richard

First lets make sure bridge mode is working.

Log into the linksys and go to the status page, there you will see the internet IP.
Does it match the IP on this page?

Also the firewall page in the Verizon, make sure it is set to disabled as per #3 on here

Hello Shane: Thanks for the help.  Here's the answers to your questions...

Log into the linksys and go to the status page, there you will see the internet IP.
Does it match the IP on this page?
http://www.pcwintech.com/myip

A: Yes, according to the Status page from the BESFX41 --they both match

Also the firewall page in the Verizon, make sure it is set to disabled as per #3 on here

A: I set it to No Firewall - all traffic allowed. It is definitely in Bridge mode. Westell ADSL2+Modem.

Have reconnected everything, port forwarding test from the web still yields closed ports 80 and 9000. Where next?

Richard

called Verizon - they say when the Westell modem is in bridge mode it's not blocking any internet traffic in or out.  Said they don't support linksys (of course).  Found this which pretty closely describes what I'm trying to do - same manufacturer of DVR, slightly different model - but same port settings... The screenshots are exactly as my BEFSX41 looks.

You left the DNS blank.

The DNS should be the same as the gateway IP.

Set that and let me know and I will try to connect.
