Boot
« on: December 26, 2011, 07:51:31 PM »
Don' t know what I have done but. The progress bar while booting used to run about 7 times, now it's about 40 times. I looked for C:\prefetch\Readyboot. Readyboot is missing along with my boot trace files. How can I fix this. I rebooted my machine 10 times and it has not been recreated. I have to admit I was fiddling with with prefetch and superfetch in registry to value #2 (to stop hard drive from thrashing to keep memory loaded, with programs I don"t hardly use) thus like a dummy I deleted everything in the prefetch file to start fresh. Do I need to set both of these back to value #3 to get it working again, or does the boot trace have nothing to do with long progress bar load time. This started about the same time of my....UHUHUH tinkering. Once the boot logo pops up everything runs perfect. I'm at a loss, when I google this, most of it has to do with readyboost (this service is on, but I don't use it, I'm on a 32 bit system with memory maxed out). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried disabling it to see if it helps?

Disable prefetch and superfetch via registry setting #0? If you mean this then no. I could try this but what adverse effect would it have when system is up and running?

Thats weird, I disabled prefetch and superfetch, my system starts in a flash and when I start a program It pops right up.

Yeap and one of the reason I disable it. Not to mention once you open a program once the next time it will fly open.

During start-up it is loading all your most used apps. I prefer to have a faster boot time than have a program open 2 sec faster.
