CleanMem 2.2.0 Crashing the system
« on: September 29, 2011, 09:53:02 AM »
SHANEEE!!!  :sad:
About an hour ago I downloaded CleanMem 2.2.0 .. I am using this program for the first time.. and I desperately NEED IT.. but since I installed it, I have got about 15 system crashes (system restarts itself)...

I installed it, and whenever I click "Clean Memory Now" from the taskbar, it does so effectively, but after that when I try to do some task, like open My Computer etc, system crashes and restarts... I read ur other post in this forum about that Norton thing but here is another case... I disabled CleanMem from scheduled tasks. After system restart, I ran CleanMem settings from the start menu and added "CleanMem.exe", "CleanMem_settings.exe" & "avp.exe"(kaspersky internet security 2011) to the ignore list and clicked "finished"... now when I tried to ran CleanMem mini monitor, system crashed and restarted  :sad:  :sad:  :sad: ..

I uninstalled it, disabled Kaspersky, installed the MemClean and added it to the kaspersky's exclusion list.. Then without enabling the antivirus, I again did that CleanMem_Setting thing and added the previous three processes to the ignore list, but aah, same thing happened again   :sad:

I even opened windows event viewer to see what does it says about the system crash, but there is not a thing there relating to it  :rolleyes: .. oh and BSOD appeared only 2 times... other times it just.....restarts :( and yeah its not a hardware problem because it never did that before, even now its running completely fine after uninstalling MemClean  :confused:

I have no idea what's happening :cry:
Please HELP!!!!  :sad:

I just read the previous forum post.. I did that "manifest file" thing u told about.. Meaning downloaded the file from microsoft etc but its still not working *sigh .. you said there that "I may have a fix for the reboot when using the common controls.".. I am willing to test it  :sad:

First lets find out what is causing the crashes :-)

First install cleanmem, but do not open the mini monitor. Run cleanmem only from the task scheduler and see if the crashes still happen.

If the crashes stop then we will look at the mini monitor. This is one that has caused crashes. It isn't the program itself, its something with the Microsoft System files on your system and the program asking Windows to use the theme.

Read this post and try the same thing, then try the mini monitor and see how things go :wink:

Alrity I did what u asked me in the first part, i.e. ran it from Scheduled tasks and it ran fine  :smiley: then I left it for an hour and the system didn't crash  :smiley: I mean it must be working in the background after every 15 minutes rite? I hope so  :confused:

THEN I did again that manifest files installation, rebooted.. Again ran memclean from the scheduled tasks and it ran fine.. BUT when I ran MemClean Monitor, it crashed and restarted  :sad: though if I don't run the mini monitor, it works fine  :sad:
So what to do now?

OK so it is the mini monitor. Now lets find out if it is the themeing command that is causing it to crash.

Edit the mini monitor manifest file with notepad and remove

    <dependentAssembly>
      <assemblyIdentity language="*" name="Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls" processorArchitecture="X86" publicKeyToken="6595b64144ccf1df" type="win32" version="6.0.0.0" />
    </dependentAssembly>

Save, then try the mini monitor again :wink:

Try removing the manifest file all together and let me know how it goes :wink:

2 things I want you to do.

1. Do a memory test. Here is a free tester.
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Let it run for about 20 min. :wink:

2. Next thing is to check the hard drive as well.
http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/disk_error_checking_at_next_boot.html

Cleanmem itself wouldn't be causing these crashes (Normally), it looks to be more of a side effect of something. So the first rule of thumb when trying to trace down the problem is to test the hardware first :wink:

Lets go from here.
