Win 7 will NOT detect the Network Adapter
« on: June 16, 2011, 09:15:03 PM »
Hey everyone!  :cheesy: I have a really terrible problem. I am trying to connect to the internet but Win 7 can't seem to find the network adapter because it said that I am missing drivers. I downloaded the drivers from the HP website and installed it. With no sight of luck, it said my system doesn't meet the minimum requirements.
Please HELP! I really need it. (Posted this with my laptop)
My PC is a HP P6214y with 8GB RAM and a Quad-Core AMD processor.
Thanks!

If it has 8GB of ram then it must be Windows 7 64bit.
Need to make sure you get the right drivers

Looks like it is just a nvidia onboard network card.

If that doesn't work you should be able to download the newest drivers for the chipset off of nvidia's website.

Thank you. I was able to grab the drivers for the adapter but it keeps saying that I don't meet the minimum requirements. I haven't check the nVidia website though. Can you help me find it please? Thanks!

Does it elaborate at all on what the minimum requirements it is looking for might be? Do you know if you have any other network cards in the computer?

I need to head off and spend some time with my wife.

What needs to be done is find out what nvidia chipset he has and grab the newest drivers from their site :cheesy:

Evan think you can help him with this? If not I will be back in the morning.

Night!

Thanks Shane!

It doesn't say anything. Nope not at all. If this would help, it was thundering and lightning really bad a while ago. I was able to turn my PC off but the stupid updates stalled me. It was on the last one when the monitor shut off. But the CPU was still on. I only turned it on a few hours ago and BAM! No more network adapter. If this also helps, I can't see the Network Adapters group on Device Manager. I can see it when I choose to see hidden devices but even so, it's not there.

EDIT: Please help me.  :omg: I will be back in the morning too. Thanks!

According to the manual the motherboard uses the GeForce 9100 chipset and the current driver is the GeForce 275.33. Give that download a try.

It is very possible that you have fried your port from the storm.

Wow! Thanks! Hopefully, I didn't fry it. That would be a nightmare.  Downloading it now. Question why was it a GeForce for the network if it said on the Motherboard Specs that it was a Realtek? Thanks!

The chipset of the motherboard is Nvidia but the specific network adapter is Realtek. We want to start with the chipset and see if that either fixes the problem or allows the network driver to be installed correctly.

Hello sir! The installation of the software/drivers is now done! I restarted the PC afterwards for max results? Anyways, what do I do now?

EDIT: I tried to install the one on the HP site (the network driver). To no affair, still gave me the same results.

Before you said that your device isn't listed normally under device manager but you can see it under the "hidden" items, correct? Have you tried either updating or rolling back your driver from there? Do you have another network card you can try (either an internal or USB)?

Well. I think I couldn't see it right after the storm. But now I can access the group from the "hidden items" now but the "network adapter" isn't there. So I can't possibly roll it back. And no, I don't have any other one.

If you aren't even seeing it in the device manager then that means that Windows doesn't see it. That would happen if the device is no longer working or if you have changed a setting in the BIOS. Have you double checked to make sure that you haven't changed anything in the BIOS?
