still problems coming out of sleep or cold boot
« on: May 30, 2011, 07:04:53 AM »
laptop with internal ethernet port & Cisco PCMCIA wi-fi card  Win XP SP 3  V2.1.6

program shows 4 "possible ports" , and I can chose one that works, till it sleeps or is rebooted.  I then have to wait for w-fi to re-connect, and have to STOP the monitor, chose the active port/connection, and then START, and all is fine till any"less than full power" mode occurs.

suggestions ?

I remember working on this with someone a while back. But the person never got back to me if any of my fixes worked.

What I found out was the wireless wouldn't show up fast enough, so I had to increased the time the program waited after coming out of sleep before it tried to reconnect to the adapter.

Check the date modified on simplemeter.exe what date and time does it show? (I want to compare it with the date on my new exe)

OK, if you don't mind I can have you help me test a new exe :-)

The plan is to increase the time the program waits before it tries to connect to the adapter. Giving Windows enough time to turn the adapter back on before the program tries to find it.

SURE, I'd love to get this working right.  I'm going off-grid later this year, and need to monitor my internet usage, so I can order the right size data package for a verizon wi-fi hot spot.   I figure if I get my "city" usage nailed down now, on DSL, I'll have an idea what I'll consume on 3g network.
So the delays I see, are wake up, and then it's about 20 more seconds for the wireless to handshake and connect, it's driver is not real snappy.  Maybe this could be a user config time ?

Additionally, upon wakeup, the system is monitoring the 3rd adapter in the list, and the one it went to sleep with is the 1st one.

But I can't read the full name of the adapters on my laptop screen 1024x768, the adapter selection window, is too narrow, and I can't read the full name. I can't make it any wider:

I am thinking a user set field where you can set the time to wait will be best :-)

Going to have dinner soon with my family. Hit me up on email and we will get on msn or yahoo chat. This way we can work faster together :-)
