It is possible the problem is the cable modem or the router.
Right now from all I read I would say it is the router.

Reason why is this, if you can connect your computer to the cable modem and it gets its IP address just fine and has no trouble getting a IP from the modem and yet the router has always had trouble getting a IP, then this shows the problem to be with the router.

I have had a lot of my customers with belkin have a lot of problems. In fact had a customer 2 months ago who's internet kept cutting out. He had to keep resetting the power to his belkin to get it to come back up.

Had him get a netgear and hasn't dropped since.

Ok, that's what I suspected, I'm gonna go get a new one. I'll take your advice and get a Netgear.

Thanks for your help guys!

Chances are good that you just have a bad unit, since Shane and I are both leaning towards that. That's an older router that only supports Wireless G and 100 Megabit LAN connections. I recommend upgrading to a wireless N router with Gigabit LAN support. I'm a fan of Netgear but I've also heard very good reviews for D-Link routers also.

Hi Again,

I bought a Netgear Wireless N300 Cable Router, and so far it's great. I've had no problems connecting to the internet, the download speed on my netbook is slightly faster and my average ping as gone from 60 to 30.

Once again, thanks for your help.
