need help (yeah lame subject i know)
« on: April 08, 2011, 07:09:16 AM »
alright so i'm seriously outta ideas on this and no clue how to fix and since you(Shane or admin here) did a lot of good things that actually are useful and actually fix stuff i thought i'd post here.
Okay now the problem....(see attachment pics),notice the weird colors.....well obviously that's my problem.1st thought was that it's related to .net framework so reinstalled it from 1.1 to 4 and still the same, now i got no clue what's causing that so an idea or just a simple hint would help, just need to know what's causing it.
thanks if anyone read this and blablabla *insert a polite ending here*

I don't think it is a .net framework problem.

Reason why I say that is IE doesn't use .net

What it does look like is that you either have something corrupted or perhaps a failing video card. The video card is low on the list though.

First thing I would do is start some repairs.
http://www.pcwintech.com/shanes-toolbox

First thing to grab and run is the reg permission repair. Since we want to make sure everything is writable before the other repairs.
http://www.pcwintech.com/files/shanes_toolbox/Repair_Registry_Permissions.zip

Then before we run others I want you to open a command window and type in sfc /scannow
This will have windows scan and replace any missing or bad files.

After those two reboot.

Once back up we are going to run a few more repairs.
http://www.pcwintech.com/files/shanes_toolbox/Repair_IE.zip
http://www.pcwintech.com/files/shanes_toolbox/Repair_WMI_Windows_Firewall.zip

These are just to cover all the bases.

Now we need to check and update your video card drivers. While the card may be good, it is the video that does all the drawing on the screen. So the first thing is to update and replace the drivers in case the current drivers are corrupted

Let me know how it goes and we will go from there

I fig tuneup app used it, but IE doesn't and its colors where off.

Any colors off else where or only in certain spots?

Also reinstalling .net frame work never works right it needs to be yanked out completely then put back in, I have a tool I found for that if we need it

off topic awkward thing : noticed that after i did your registry permission fix in windows boot, after xp logo i keep getting autocheck program not found - autocheck skipped, didn't mention it cause it was only 1st boot after but got it again now :/

umm related to colors....nope checked around in pc and nothing :/

so yeah maybe your .net fix will work?idk,oh yeah...i had this color problem before, got sick of it so ignored it and after a week or so it was gone :/ dumb explanation i know but thought i'd mention it and/or maybe some .dll files aren't registered ?:/

thanks for replying fast btw :)

Autocheck not found? Could be a sign something is messed up.
The reg permissions only changes the permissions in the reg, doesnt touch files.
http://forums.techarena.in/windows-xp-support/450114.htm

Have you done a chkdsk and have it check for bad sectors?

Here is the .net removal I use.
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx

Had a system where .net was shot. Needed it removed to properly reinstall, this did the trick

Have you checked your video cables to make sure they aren't damaged and that they are connected correctly? Also, are you using any sort of VGA to DVI adapter or anything like that?

This should help you remove that, bet it is in the Reg.
http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=831426

On the chkdsk do this.
Open my computer, right click on the c drive and go to properties.
On the tools tab do the error check. When the box opens check both boxes.
It will ask if you want to do it at next boot. hit yes and then reboot.

The chkdsk should take a little while since it will check all the sectors. The results will be in the event viewer wen it is done.

Silly question as I am sure I already know, you have SP3 install correct?

Well bud you have done everything great. Covered all the bases.

If you happen to have another video card to test with that would be great!
At least that way we can cover that base as well.

On the autocheck, I am surprised its not in the reg. It didn't happen till after the reg permissions where reset and it is the only sport windows loads it.

I do have it on my system, perhaps double check?

Maybe it not being there is the problem!
Here is a reg file to use for it.

Well so far everything we have done hasn't fixed it.
The next logical step is to test the hardware.
Fastest way to do that is to pop in a new video card and see.
