rundll32.exe NvCpl.dll, NvStartup
« on: January 19, 2011, 11:47:45 PM »
Hi
From my searches at the net, it is not clear whether it is necessary at start up , I know it is related to the Nvidia card .
Questions:  1.On what occasions will it be needed ?
                    2.Any impact if disabled ?
                    3. Any gain from disabling ?

Thanks

I pulled this from WinPatrol.
Quote from: WINPATROL CLOUD
NVidia Graphics – NVSTARTUP, NVCPL.DLL

NVstartup.exe and NVcpl.dll are installed with many of the Nvidia Graphics cards. They initialize the clock, establish memory settings, and set defaults for your system's graphics card. NvQtwk.dll, NvColorInit, and NvCplDaemon may be installed as well.

For more information and to download the latest versions of these files and all NVidia drivers, http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp. Select the type of driver you need, then select the model of your video card. Finally, select your operating system.

They basically are the control panel for your graphics card and the startup entries.  You can try disabling them and see if there are any graphics issues. They aren't the actual drivers so your setup might be fine. Just make sure you are comfortable using Autoruns from Sysinternals and Safe Mode in case you need to boot into safe mode and enable them again.

When you go to your adapter settings you will have a nvidia control panel option.

That is what that startup is for. I don't see why it would take anything out of your system, so a good chance you won't have any gain from disabling it

Thank you Shane, I think I`ll leave it disabled at start up as I do not fiddle with this anyway, and if from some reason I`ll  have to do some changes, I can always manually configure it with out this being in the background.

I agree with Shane.

Just disable it and if you don't run into any problems then you're good to go. If you have plenty of memory the only difference you might notice a slightly quicker boot and shutdown.
