F5D8236-4 v2 Modem not connecting right
« on: December 28, 2010, 05:14:10 PM »
First of all Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Next, my router is unfortunately horrible. It has been like this for about a month. The router loses connection to the modem all the time. The worst thing is that every time I turn off my main/desktop PC, the router seems to shut off too. Like I can't connect to the internet anymore on my wireless device when it is off. Thanks!

Can you give me some details of how you have things wired and setup?

Wow you guys are fast! I'm not really sure what you are saying but. In my router, I have my PS3, PC, and the modem connection.  I usually have some random wifis around. Thanks!

:confused:Wait I don't get it. All I know is that the modem is on the port that says "Modem" on the router.  :shy:

Thats what I was looking for :-)

So, you shut down your computer and the ps3 is no longer able to get online?
But when your computer is on it works fine. Correct?

Exactly.  :cheesy: Not just the PS3 though, all of my wifis do not work also.  But when you turn the PC back on, everything is fine. Except when I turn it on, the router lights blink red on the globe. I have to reset it before it works again.  Sometimes it has a hard time recognizing the modem.   :blank:

It's on the 1 port. I can remember awhile back though that I had it on 4. No difference though.

Try this,
plug it back into port 4.

Also shut down the computer. Then when it is down, unplug the power to the router, wait 15 sec then plug it back in. See if the net comes back for the other systems

Well, it gave me no luck.  :omg: It made the router lose connection to the modem again. No Wifi product was able to connect either. Including the PS3. I'm connected because I directly connected my PC to the modem. The speed is very noticeable.

Unless something is hooked up wrong, which i dont think it is. I think you may have a faulty router.

How many network ports does your modem have on the back of it?

I think it is faulty too.  My modem only has one. If your wondering what it is, it is a Motorola SB5120.

Yea, there is no way you could have had anything set up wrong. It is time to replace that router.

I recommend a netgear :-)
