F5D8236-4 v2 xbox problems
« on: December 19, 2010, 10:24:17 AM »
i recently bought the F5D8236-4 v2 modem and on my laptops and computer its fine the problem lies with my xbox 360, its slow to connect online, it random disconnects at times, right now im trying to watch sentuamessage and its constantly buffering and poor at streaming, when i play online namely black ops at the minute if i host its laggy as hell but even if i dont host the game will play fine and then lag me for a second or so n i get people jumping all over the screen then ultimately it will give me the connection interrupted message and then either lag me out completely or just drop my internet connection,

iv tried updating the firmware but that fails i get the message IP is out of range in [1-254]!

i went to port forwarding and followed the instructions there but that hasnt seemed to have helped much at all i tried disabling UPNP and that seemed to make matters worse  i set up a static ip on my xbox and that hasnt done much of anything im also getting strict NAT now too

I see that your Xbox 360 is attached with a wireless connection.  What happens if you connect it with a wire?

If you can't do that what happens if you turn off both the other computer so only the Xbox 360 is connected?

These will help determine if you just have a bad wireless connection or if it's something else.

Also, what wireless adapter (specific model) are you using with your Xbox 360?

Okay.  Can you look in your Xbox 360's wireless network settings and tell me what kind of security it is using for the setup?  You should see WEP, WPA, or WPA2.  We want WPA2.  You will also want to have your router set to use this too.

Also, how far away is the router from the Xbox 360?  If you can guess the amount of feet that would be great.  I know that can be hard, especially if the devices are on different floors of the house.

Make sure UPnP is enabled in the router.

Also is there anyway, just for a quick test that you can move the xbox to the router so you can use a network cable?

The point of the test is this. By using a network cable and disabling the wireless will tell us 1 of 2 things.
1. if the wired connection has the same trouble then the problem is with the router in some way (Perhaps the UPnP?)
2. If the wired connection fixes the problem then it has to be with the wireless. Perhaps the signal is to weak where it is located normally? Or a number of other things we can try for that.

He already has UPnP enabled and he said he can't connect with a cable.  I'm looking at some suggestions and I think he needs to try turning off WPS.

Also that router drops to 54Mbps if you use anything other than "no security" or WPA2.

You might also want to reset your network connections in the Xbox 360.  I have my power flicker this morning and my Xbox 360 could not get online.  All my computers could and I made sure to reset my modem and router and everything else I could think of...except the 360.

I followed those steps and it's working fine now.

Evan

P.S.  Do you get any errors when you go to test your Xbox Live connection in the 360?

Yes...go into your router and make those changes.  Then go to your 360 and reset the network settings to their default.   Then get the new info in (use Automatic) and then make sure you use WPA2 in the 360 and let us know how that goes.

Don't forget to power cycle the Router after you make the changes.
