Also try to make sure there isn't any large furniture in the way of the signal (especially metal).

At this point you can use DMZ. Why? Because when you tested with the network cable it worked fine. So if DMZ worked there you can leave it.
Whoops...my bad.  That just slipped my mind.  I need to go get some coffee.

We gotta see NO security and FULL security...nothing in between.

Also...if you happen to have an wireless network adapter that you might have used on an old Xbox...give that a try.  Doubt you have that though.

To verify the Security setting you are using can you post a screen shot of the Security page instead of or in addition to the Front Page?

Also, if you have it set up to be an access point you need to change that.

I know the Front Page shows that this is a F5D8236-4 v2 router but if you look at the bottom of the unit does it happen to have something more?

Like F5D8236-4 v20xx
or    F5D8236-4 v21xx

I ask only because there are two different firmwares for the "version 2" of that router model (http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/306)

Though I wouldn't expect the wrong one to work anyways.

With an Open NAT you can't get into any games?

You definately have some wireless speed issues then or connection problems.

Did you ever go and try to change the Channel that your router is on?  When you do that can you post a screen shot of that page so we can see what you have chosen?

iv changed to wireless channel 11 now i have just played a game with wpa security 2 on, iv enabled the DMZ and configured the xbox to a static ip, upnp is also enabled, now there wasnt much of the lag issue going on in that game but it was only 1 game lol the problem now is my NAT is back to strict so party and voice errors are occuing, plus it is taking a long time to connect to games and my router is version 2xxx

Okay, well first off we can see that changing the channel helped.  Configuring the XBox to a static IP shouldn't make any difference.  I'd ask for you to post a screen shot of the Security page so I can see the security you have (I like to see just to make sure) BUT...it looks like you have the wrong firmware.

Try this one: http://cache-www.belkin.com/support/dl/f5d8236-4_ww_2.00.04.bin

and just in case you need to revert, here is the old one: http://cache-www.belkin.com/support/dl/f5d8236-4_ww_2.01.03.bin

You could always go to the aministrative settings and save your configuration so when you try the other firmware you can easily get back to where you are now.

Can you walk me through the process that you took to try and update the firmware?  When I posted the link to the firmware I had completely forgot that you had tried before.  I'm wondering what you did that generated the error.

Also, what's the IP address of the computer you tried to upload the firmware from?  That could have something to do with it.

ok so i reset eveything i reset all the router settings i reset all the xbox settings, stil nothing so all i did then was turn all security off UPNP is enabled anyways n just left everything else as is, now i managed to download on my xbox a file yesterday of about 1.35gb with no disconnection.. i then played games offline tho stil connected to xbox live with no disconnection,
later on i proceeded to play black ops and for a game or 2 wasnt bad but the problem i seemed to have was party chat being choppy.
today i have come home from work and attempted to log on xbox live and failed, also my normal net seems rather sluggish, on connecting to xbox live i get the error message as follows

your console can connect to xbox live, but your router or gateway isnt responding to ICMP responses

i have power cycled both devices to no further joy

I'm curious about your speed too.  Make sure you do the test a few times and try a couple different servers.
