Problems coming out of sleep mode.
« on: November 13, 2010, 06:00:50 AM »
I am a great fan of Simple Internet Meter Lite, but there are two little issues that is an on going nuisance.

1.  Every time I come out of sleep mode, the monitor erects a message box telling me that it can't find my network card. I do notice that it takes a few seconds for the computer to get the WiFi connection back up. Could you make this message a configurable option. I would rather that the monitor just wait, or wait for a certain amount of time before it erects the message.

2. Also, sometimes, coming out of sleep, the icon in the notification tray disappears. If I try to restart Simple Internet Meter Lite, it says that it already is running, so I am forced to kill it with the task manager and restart it. This happens about 1 out of every 5 times I come out of sleep mode. I tried to create a .BAT file to kill it and restart it, but I get an access denied error. Hand killing it is all that works.

Except for those two little problems, it is the best of its type that I have found.

Your not the only one to have trouble coming out of sleep mode.

What version of windows are you on?

The problem that I found is when windows comes out of sleep mode it is changing the ID of the network card.
Example: before sleep mode the ID of the nic was 48 coming out of sleep mode it is 59

My program does it by ID. The reason it doesn't do it by name is in case someone has 2 adapters with the same name. Which happens alot.

So I am trying to think of a way to better handle this. The ID is changing on me and the name isn't a full proof way. But I cant think of any other way to remember which nic.

hhmm, actually I wonder if I could have it remember by the mac address of the nic? I will need to test and try it out.
