*sigh* It just doesn't work.
« on: June 28, 2010, 12:09:33 PM »
I've fully configured my WRT160N router, set up port forwarding and everything. The port forwarding works! I can set up the router to forward port 49132 to my computer (192.168.1.150) and then when I connect to 192.168.1.1 (the router) with my client program it properly connects to the server program running on my computer and they exchange messages nicely (I wrote both programs; they're really really short; it was easier than finding something else to test it with.). But when I try to connect to port 49132 on my external IP, the connection just times out... I have no idea what's wrong with it. http://www.pcwintech.com/port_test.php also reports it as offline.

Download and run my port tester. It will open and listen on the port for the connection.

Also make sure to look over

Since you can connect locally I know it isnt a firewall problem. Check problem #1 mainly. What is the WAN ip address for the linksys? does it match the Ip on the port tester page?

I've already done exactly that... it didn't help at all(

Since I'm at my wit's end, though, I tried it again. Since in the meantime I'd been (successfully) fiddling with getting wireless working with this router, I had to reconfigure a bunch of stuff. And it works! Well... it no longer works when I try to connect to 192.168.1.1, but both 192.168.1.150 and <my external ip> work, so *shrug*.

I suppose I probably typed something in wrong the first time I configured things.

Thanks for the advice!
