Ideas for new programs - By Shane

Well the voting is done. I have decided to make a game next. I have started up CroftGames.com and my first game will be for the ipad.

In the future I will still be doing a few more Windows and Mac apps. Such as SPF for the MAC. But for now I want to get started on my first game!

I also just got my Android phone so I will see about games for it as well.

Thanks to everyone who voted :-)

Ahhh well..

One last suggestion :P
Can ya make a torrent finder program or something? which we can use without going to ny broswer. Cuz its very tiring and time consuming going to sites to search torrent and get different trackers from different sites..

For example if you go into torrentz.com  you can get extra trackers plus different site for one single torrent.

So if ya can make a program which will consist of many trackers and sites to search the torrent for.. Just like craagle where it contains lots of serial keys sites to search in.

Those sites are all database's. So any program would have to crawl the sites all the time to get the new torrents. Would not work very well

My vote would be for either a CleanMem version for iPhone, iPad and Android.  One of the drawbacks to the iPhone is that it keeps everything you have opened running in the background with no way (barring a full shutdown) to turn them off.  I know that Macs have very good memory management but this is one area that would benefit from an app such as CleanMem.

Another suggestion is to create an interactive firewall app.  I realize that most of these are Mac-based systems but even Macs can do with some tighter security.  I have read many reports of iPhones getting hacked but if they had some sort of interactive firewall, they may not be hacked so easily.  Androids are Linux-based and probably handle their "firewall" in much the same way as Mac.  My experience with Linux is somewhat limited.  I do use Ubuntu and use their GFW firewall app.  Ubuntu has a default deny for all ports below a certain number (1024 I think) but what if the hacker is using one of the port numbers higher than that?

Personally, I usually do not buy apps but these are two apps I would definitely pay for.

I already tried an iPhone version of cleanmem. Apple rejected it. Apple rejects every single app that might make their device look bad. There are no wifi finders as well as apple doesn't want you using the radio. basically any app that tries to use anything that has to do with hardware or other apps gets killed. Every app has to run by itself and not touch any thing. It is the most restricted device i have ever programmed for.

Now the cool thing is with the Android there are no restrictions. I get my Android next month when my carrier finally gets it and I am already on the list to get one of the first ones. Then I will start programming for it :-)

Firewall software for the MAC or Windows is a very very large project. I know a ton about network programming but the overhead of a firewall program is more than I want to handle. So I will pass (For now) on a firewall program.

How ever once I get my Android I will be making a few apps I think you will like

I am not aware of any way to do that.
When windows goes into standby mode nothing is running. hibernate mode, windows moves everything from memory to the hard drive so the memory can be powered down.

A program can be made to read when windows is starting to go into standby or coming out of it, but when windows does go into standby all the programs are stopped.\

You may be better off going down the middle. Set the monitor and hard drives to go off after a bit but keep the system from going into standby.

i think u are not right.task schedule can a wake pc from hibernate .you can see how at that video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slalQ2bj9AI
also theres a program called WOSB that is alternative to windows task schedule but its more simple but it need some more features to be used as perfect alarm clock.
but theres a note to be able to make task schedule wake your pc :
u must enable an option in the advanced power options in windows 7 & probably vista the option called (allow wake timer )under sleep item otherwise the steps in the youtube video & the program will not work

Very nice, I just learned something new :-)

I was thinking more from a program API stand point. But what I could do is make an app that sets and creates the task in task schduler to go off at the time the user wants. when it goes off I can have the task run program for playing a sound like an alarm.

this would be a pretty easy app for me to make. I could make it and add it to my Shanes toolbox page.

Why dont you email me and I will work with you and have you test. Shouldnt take me long to make if you need it.

thanks for your reply
but have u tried the WOSB .it s task scheduler that can a wake pc to do a certain task as opening a program or a file.i use it as alarm clock as it has simpler interface than windows task schedule .but it need more feutures to be a perfect alarm clock .as it need something like snooze .i mean when the alarm work a message should appear with options like(repeate the task after:5,10,15,20,30,......minutes ).
i think u can make a similar program with that extra feature
it will work as task scedule & a great alarm clock.
thanks.please reply.

I found http://www.dennisbabkin.com/php/download.php?what=WOSB

But I don't know what API's it is calling. If I can find the windows api that works with ACPI I could see what I could do.

I am referring to the Windows API

Quote
An Application Programming Interface (API) is an interface implemented by a software program which enables it to interact with other software. It is similar to the way the user interface facilitates interaction between humans and computers. An API is implemented by applications, libraries, and operating systems to determine their vocabularies and calling conventions, and is used to access their services. It may include specifications for routines, data structures, object classes, and protocols used to communicate between the consumer and the implementer of the API

It is how a program works with the OS :-)
So I have to find the API that windows uses for the ACPI (power management)

I just got hired to make another custom program for someone, so I have to start on that. I will look for any known API and see what I can find :-)
