Station Stream

Cool site. Nicely done. First time on here. Got an on-going issue maybe you can help me with. I have an online streaming station. Anywhere from twice a week to once a day the connection drops, and blows out all the listeners. It will come right back in maybe a second! The ISP insists there connection isn't dropping, that it is on my end, router. I'm using a ZyXEL NBG-419. I don't think it's that though. Also, when checking the computer with the 'codecs' on it, they never go down. Any ideas? Thanks!

Thanks for the nice complement :-)

Your dropping problem could be a number of different things. The fun part is trying to find out which one lol.
But to do that will will just go down a check list of things and cover all the bases.

First what OS is this running on?
Reason why I ask is I have some networking tweaks that might help, but also we can make sure it isn't a OS or software problem like antivirus or firewall.

How many listeners are on before it drops? Or does the number of listeners not matter when it drops?
This could also be a sign of a bad router, or a router hitting its connection limit.
We can also check to make sure any extra filtering, fire walling, or anything the router might have enabled is turned off. The less work the router has to do the more it can handle.

Also download my simple ping tool. Have it ping every 2 sec or so and see if the ping time outs when the connection drops. If it does then we know the internet is dropping. If it keeps pinging without a problem then we know it isn't the internet but something else.

Lets go from here

Hi Shane..thanks for your reply. Ok..I use XP Pro on everything here. Also, no virus protection or firewall on that one PC! It does nothing but run the codecs. The stream software is Edcast, formally Oddcast. I relay to a main server, so no one actually connects to my computer here. As I mentioned, the router is a ZyXEL NBG-419 ,only a few months old. I did a firmware update about a month after buying it. I'm sure you know a lot more about that router than I do. I'll check out your ping tool. Thanks a lot.

Then we need to turn off some extra features in the router and also see how the ping does when the connection drops. :-)

No hurry. Thanks. I have PCAnywhere forwarding ports, but I think that is is. I think it is the internet provider with the drops, but you know how they are. It's always on "the customer's end"!  LOL  Odd that it has not dropped since Mon. morning! Have a good evening. Thanks for the help.
