Title: Telstra elite mbb ip address
Post by: colinr on October 07, 2013, 05:36:39 AM
Can you point me in the right direction please?

I have a TP Link router with a telstra usb MBB.
All works ok for outgoing traffic but I cannot remote into it.

The 3G reports an IP of eg  10.96.75.82
whatismyip etc  report eg  101.172.42.155

The 3G address works ok from here locally and I can ping to it ok
But neither IP address works from a remote computer.

Any ideas please?

Colin

That is because your ISP has you behind a 2nd network on their end.

A lot of cell internet providers do that. They normally do it for one of two reasons.

1. They dont have enough Internet IPs to hand out so they use their own network.
2. They dont want people hosting anything.

The only way out of that 2nd network is to buy a static Internet IP from them. The only way they can give you a static Internet IP is to take you out of that 2nd network
