Title: Specific ports are closed in my router, while others work.
Post by: Aldrick on November 09, 2012, 08:46:14 AM
Hi :)

I am having a hard time trying to let friends connect to my Minecraft server.

I am using a Linksys WRT54GL router, and I have pointed port 25565 towards 192.168.1.13 (13 which is my server).
I have also allowed minecraft server trough the firewall, and even called the ISP to check if it's a problem with the home central.

They said everything should be okay on their end.
The weird thing is that it used to work before, by doing exactly what I am doing now.

To host the Minecraft server I am using Windows Server 2008 R2.

Could you please help me?

First lets double check a few things.

Post 2 screen shots for me.

1. Post a screen shot of the port forwarding page in the router (SO I can see the rules)
2. Post a screen shot of the results of my port tester program (Run the port tester on the machine that the rule is pointing to)

Lets go from there

I wanted the test results of the port tester, you didnt let it finish testing lol. But it did show me your local IP and all the rules look good. What did the test say on the port tester program? (I removed the screen shot since it showed your internet IP)

Also go to the status page in the linksys. There you will see its internet IP. Does it match the IP on this page?

Hi again

The IP adress does match.

However, your port tester program doesn't seem to function properly, it just keeps behaving like this. No results.

It just sits there waiting? (The port tester)

If it does then you must have an IE add on that isnt allowing my program to click the button on the port tester page.

Do the test again, when it is sitting there waiting click the button on the page for it

Open IE and go to manage add ons. Disable them all. Close IE and the port tester and then try my port tester again

What antivirus do you have installed? A while back there was a norton IE add on that didnt let my program click anything on the pages.

Hi again

Still nothing, and I have no anti-virus installed.

Could it be that Windows Server 2008 R2 uses IE Enhanced Security?

I bet that is what it is. The security is set so high the program doesn't have permissions.

For now, you can change it back, change the IE security to medium-low.

So much work, I hate IE

Anyway, I got it working now, I just disabled IE enhanced security for admins.

Your port forwarding is working fine bud

My port tester opens the port on the computer and listens for a connection from my site. So if it says successful then you can count on port forwarding is working.

I still can't connect locally to 192.168.1.13 though...  :undecided:

Any ideas?

Then something is either blocking it or not setup correctly.

When connecting locally that has nothing to do with port forwarding. Port forwarding is only when someone from the outside is trying to connect. When connecting locally your not even hitting the router.

So port forwarding works and you cant connect locally then the next place to check is the settings for the server and make sure nothing is blocking it

I dont play minecraft so I cant help to much on that. But what I have seen people do is make the mistake of putting an IP in the server settings when it should be left blank. Others it is normally a firewall blocking it.

No problem :-)

Since your port forwarding is working I will lock this thread

And as always...
If your happy with my work. Then all I ask in return is you simply let others know about my site and programs. I help with anything computer or network related :-)
Also always feel free to make a post in the feedback forum.
And a facebook like at the top of the page of my site is nice as well. ;)
