Hi Again, Another Problem with port forwarding
« on: November 29, 2009, 04:29:21 PM »
Hi.

Considering the main conclusion of the previous topic about port forwarding that I started last September I changed my ISP and afterwards everything got solved. Bitcomet could open the ports in the random option and I could download torrent files nice and easy. However, today I opened BitComet and it gave me the gray light error (Open Port Status Unknown) and the worst thing is that I tried to reboot my router via Internet Explorer and after logging in, I was checking the different screens and suddenly Internet Explorer gave an error saying that it could not reach the webpage I was trying to access (it was like my router went dead, but Internet was working fine) so I was able to access any website but the router one... I had to close IE several times to be able to see the router site again (after logging in of course) but the problem with the gray light still.

Please help me, I don't want to think I changed my ISP in vain...

Shougo.

From the sounds of it your new modem from your ISP has UPnP (Automatic port forwarding) and bitcomet supports UPnP.

Given the fact it seems to have stopped and you had trouble loading the pages I would do a power cycle on the modem. Unplug the power, wait about 30 sec (We want to make sure it has enough time for all the power to drain out) then plug it back in. Make sure bitcoment is closed during this,

When it is back up and your back online see how everything goes.

I have both a router for my pc and my laptop and the isp modem. I enabled the UPnP option in the router and I think the modem supports it since Bitcomet were working ok for at last a week until today.

I tried what you suggested but I didn't work.

So are you behind 2 routers now? Have you run the multiple routers tool?

Hmm I'm behind one router and one modem. The ISP's modem is connected to a wi fi router that supplies internet to both my laptop and my pc. I used the tool you mentioned and it only detects the router, it does not detect the modem.

I just want to make sure your modem is just a modem and not a router as well. Does the WAN ip in your router match that on the port checker page?
http://www.pcwintech.com/port_test.php

If it does then you are behind just 1 router.
ALso keep in mind some ISP's will block a heavily used port, so changing the port bitcomet uses would be a good idea.

In the router's website I checked th IP address and i matches the one that appeared in the url you gave me.

I changed the port about 20 times and none of them worked...

I just can't believe it, it worked great for a week and now it suddenly stopped working...

Then add the port forwarding rules in the router, you should be fine then. Sounds like UPnP stopped working or something else.

Problem fixed. I just did what you told me and added the rules to my router and everything went back to normal.

Why UPnP would stop working? Any idea?

Well, this topic can be closed since the issue was solved.

Thank you very much.
