I can only foward UDP ports but not TCP.
« on: October 24, 2009, 03:00:38 AM »
I am using Simple Port Fowarding and have done all right. I have opened TCP and UDP protocols 6112-6119, they are Warcraft 3 ports. I have set my static ip with Simple Static IP. I have disabled my windows firewall and Eset Smart Security firewall also. When i check with PFPortChecker it says my TCP ports are closed and UDP ports are opened. And when i host nobody joins. Any ideas?

Thank You.

Hey johhu12, thanks for joining the forum!  Well everything sounds good except for the last part.  You should try our port checking tool (Simple Port Tester) instead of PFPortChecker.  ;) You're already using all the other "Simple" tools we have, so you should just stick with them throughout.  ;D

Plus you can post a screen shot of Simple Port Checker's results and Shane can help you directly.  If you post the result just be sure to not include your Internet IP Address in the picture.  We don't want anyone seeing that!

After that we can go from there.  Hope this helps.

The port tester is also built into the simple port forwarding program, its step 7 of the check list. Let me know how that turns out and we can go from there  ;D

Have you tried disabling UPnP, then removing the rules, then restarting the router, then adding the rules back in and then restarting the router a final time.  Try that and see if that makes any difference.  If it does then try re-enabling UPnP since lots of new networking devices are designed to work with UPnP.

Let us know what that does for you (if anything).  After that we can start digging a little deeper if we need to.

Just so you know, you can upload files directly to the forum instead of linking.  That will save you a step and it's much cleaner to look at.

By restartin You mean turning power off and then on? If so then i did it and no changes. TCP is still closed. And if i restart my router the UPnP turns it self on again.

Yes, that is correct, I just wanted you to power cycle the router.  Let me check with Shane and we will get back to you.

No problem, we're here to help.  Have you tried setting the rule manually or tried a factory reset of the router?  I doubt the 1st suggestion would do anything but we have seen some routers that worked fine after a factory reset to defaults.  Though if you do that you'll have to go in a change everything back.  Most routers let you save the setup so if you need to do a factory reset you can restore your settings right back.

Feel free to try these if you haven't, they are just suggestions though.  They won't hurt anything and they might help, I just don't want you to feel like you're wasting time.

Thanks for the extra screens, helps a ton!  ;D

Im wondering if you have the same bug in your router as a few other people have had in their thomson routers. Here is a test to find out.
There have been a few people now I have helped where port forwarding just wouldnt work with their thomson, or one person whos TCP would work but UDP always failed. Well the trick is to make a port forwarding rule with ports 1000 - 65535. When I did this rule on them they all started working! Seems to be a serious bug in the thomson firmware!

So here is what I would like you to do. Remove the warcraft rule you made in the router. Then make a new rule for ports 1000 - 65535 both UDP and TCP. Then see how that goes.

I have tried setting the rule manually then i resetted the factory settings and still UDP open and TCP closed. Then i removed my Warcraft rule and made rule for ports 1000-65535 both UDP and TCP. And still UDP open and TCP closed.

Ok do 2 more things.

1st. Test some different ports in the port tester. You have a lot of ports open so try some other ones, see if any udp port you test past and if all tcp you test fail.

2nd. Do you have anything enabled under the firewall page in your router?

From there if tcp still fails we will look at your system to see if the block is there. DO you have another system to test with as well?

oh yes and one more thing! another problem I have seen with thomson routers is it doesn't like when a system has a static IP, try setting your IP back to automatic.

All TCP tests fail and all UDP tests pass. I have disabled static ip.
