Adding a Range of Ports to forward
« on: August 19, 2009, 11:28:04 AM »
Hello,
I selected World of Warcraft Downloader to add ports to forward.  There is a range of ports to forward : 6881 - 6999.  However, if you update the router, only the first port is taken into account.  How can I forward the range of ports?

Some routers allow you to do a range of ports per rule while others only let you do one port at a time for each rule.

Which router do you have?

I don't have the model in the program, I take it one of the others works for you?

I also looked at the screens I have of the phillips snb5600 and it can support ranges (didn't notice when I added it!), let me make a quick change to the script to have it do ranges instead. I will have you update in just a few.

Oh by the way I would like to get your model added to the site and program.

just use my router screen capture program http://www.pcwintech.com/router-screen-capture
to view every page in the router. Shouldn't take to long, 5 min or so.

Then I can get your model added as well :-)

Thanks a lot!  Now the range was indeed taken into account, but when I do the test of the ports (Check Port Satus), I still get a failure...
OK, I will try to use your screen capture program!

Kind regards,
Yannick

I used your Screen capture program, went through all the screens, then the file was compressed but when I wanted to upload the file, it couldn't be found...  I tried 2 times, without success... What did I do wrong?

Go ahead and just email me the zip file.
Also make sure to give this a read if the ports are being added to the router but are still not working.

I am very sorry but I still have both problems :
- I captured all the router screens (more than 40), than pressed 'Done' and got the message that the file was compressed, indicating the path, but I can't find this zip-file on my pc, so I can't upload it and I can't send you this by e-mail.  What can be the reason?
- The Port Range was effectively added to the router, but when I test the ports, it still fails...  I read your documentation on common-problems-fixes-port-forwarding, but unfortunately it didn't bring the solution

if the zip is under the default dir look for C:\RS_Capture\Captures

also send me an email, if you followed all the help on that page and it didnt fix it then I would like to take a look and find the problem, if it is something new then I can add the fix to the help page as well :-)

I have been looking in C:\RS_Capture\Captures, but there is only a readme.txt, nothing else.  And I did a search on the whole C: drive.

OK, I will send you an email.

Ok got him all fixed up, this is a post for the other readers.

The router screen capture program wasn't saving the files because he had a / in the model name, which when the program tried to make the folder failed as / are not allowed in file & folder names. (I should update the program to auto remove those)

On the port forwarding everything was working fine, the problem was he had a rule with the port already in the router. So when he tried to added the new range the router wouldn't take it. All we had to do was remove the old rule first, after that everything worked fine. I will update the help file to make sure users know to remove old rules first :-)

Locking thread.
